An important part of a 1:1 technology initiative is to teach students the importance of “digital citizenship”. The main idea behind this is that students learn to use their iPads, or any device that connects to the internet, in a responsible way. During “digital citizenship week” I will be posting some items of information regarding digital citizenship. This information will focus on a number of areas including :

  • Privacy and Security
  • Digital footprint and reputation
  • Self-image and identity
  • Creative credit and copyright
  • Relationships and communication
  • Information literacy
  • Cyber bullying
  • Internet safety

Digital citizenship is part of something greater than just “being good” and dong the right thing. It is one aspect of a child’s overall development as a human being. Teaching students to have good character, maintain a good reputation, have positive self-image, and to be literate are all important facets of modern education. Let’s make this week’s focus on digital citizenship be just a small step in the overall development of our children.
